After you obtain a license key, you can add it to the vCenter Server license inventory and assign it to assets.

Select a licensing option.

Navigate to the asset in the inventory.

Click Manage, and click Settings

Select Licensing.

Navigate to Administration > Licensing > Licenses.

From the vCenter Server drop-down menu, select a vCenter Server instance.

Select the vCenter Server Instances, Hosts, or the Solutions tab.

Select the asset to license.

To select multiple assets, use Shift+click.

Click Assign License Key.

From the licensing method drop-down menu, select Assign a new license key.

Type the license key, and type an optional label for the key.

Click Decode.

Decode the license key to verify that it is in the correct format, and that it has enough capacity to satisfy the required license usage for the asset. You can also decode the license key to verity that it belongs to the correct product that is associated with the asset.

Click OK.

The license key is added to the inventory of vCenter Server and assigned to the asset . Capacity from the license key is allocated according to the required license usage for the asset.

Note

You might notice vRAM usage reported for vSphere 5.x licenses. vSphere 5.x is licensed per-processor and you should ignore the reported vRAM usage for vSphere 5.x licenses.
