If you do not have physical access to the host, you can use the vSphere Client to configure static IP settings if you are on the same physical subnet and you configure the vSphere Client IP to be on the 169.254.x.x network.

Select the host in the inventory.

Select the Configuration tab and click Networking.

Click Properties next to Virtual Switch: vSwitch0.

Select Management Network and click Edit.

On the IP Settings tab, click Use the following IP settings.

Enter a static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway and click OK.
