When you install ESXi, you have several options that allow you to customize the process to meet the needs of your environment.

These options include how to store and access the installation media, how to boot the installer, and which mode (interactive or scripted) to use when you run the installer.

By default, when you boot the ESXi installer from a CD/DVD, the CD/DVD uses the interactive mode and uses itself as the source of the installation media. You can modify the default installation process in the following ways:

CD (default) or DVD

Media depot, which can be accessed by FTP, HTTP/HTTPS, or NFS. HTTPS with a proxy server is not supported.
