When you migrate the server data, you migrate applications, scripts, and other data from a vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance to an installed and overwritable Application Services 6.1 appliance.

Note

The Application Services 6.1 appliance requires one and only one vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance. The vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance must be ready to use before you migrate your vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance to the Application Services 6.1 appliance.

The migration operation creates the migration log file /home/darwin/migrate/application_services_backuptimestamp/migration.log on the Application Services 6.1 appliance, where timestamp is the current date and time. The migration log file contains the migration status information.

Prerequisites for the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance

Log in to the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance as root.

Verify that PermitRootLogin in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config configuration file is set to yes. If you change the configuration file, restart the sshd service.

Verify that there are no deployments in progress.

Prerequisites for the Application Services 6.1 appliance

Log in to the Application Services 6.1 appliance as root.

Verify remote login access to the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance with the following command string.

ssh root@ipaddress ‘date’

ipaddress is the IP address of the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance. This command string returns the correct date from the 6.0.1 appliance.

Prerequisites for the vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance

The vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance must match one of the following profiles.

A former vCloud Automation Center 6.0.1 instance previously registered with the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance, then upgraded to vCloud Automation Center 6.1 and registered with the Application Services 6.1 appliance.

A former vCloud Automation Center 5.2 instance previously used with the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance, then migrated to vCloud Automation Center 6.1.

A new, unused vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance.

Create business groups in the vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance that correspond exactly to the local or LDAP groups that exist in the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance. The business groups must exist in the same tenant targeted for the migration.

You must have the credentials of a vCloud Automation Center 6.1 user who belongs to all of the required business groups in the tenant. Membership in the business groups entitles the user to create and modify the Application Services 6.1 objects owned by those business groups.

1

Enter the following script location and name at the CLI command prompt and press Enter to log in to the Application Services 6.1 appliance.

/home/darwin/tools/migrate.sh

The system warns you that the operation will erase all content on the Application Services 6.1 appliance and asks if you want to proceed.

2

Enter y for yes and press Enter.

The system warns that there is no recovery for erased content and asks you to confirm.

3

Enter y for yes and press Enter.

The system prompts you to enter the IP address of the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance.

4

Enter the IP address and press Enter.

If you have registered the vCloud Application Director 6.0.1 appliance with a vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance, the system proceeds with the migration.

If you have not registered the appliance with a vCloud Automation Center 6.1 instance, the system asks if you want to continue with the migration.

5

If prompted to continue with the migration, enter Y for yes or N for no.

Option

Description

Y

Proceed with the migration. Use the default tenant, Tenant 0.

N

Exit the migration process.

If you exit the migration, you can then register the appliance and restart the migration process.

When the migration finishes, the system runs the report.sh script. The report lists the type and number of objects such as applications and deployment environments that have transferred to the vCloud Automation Center Application Services 6.1 appliance.

The migration operation allows you to import predefined content to a single tenant.
