With Access Point 2.6 and later releases, the Access Point appliance can serve as a reverse proxy for VMware Identity Manager.

An Access Point appliance resides within a DMZ behind the load balancers and in front of the VMware Identity Manager. Access Point acts as a reverse proxy to enable access to on-premises resources, including VMware Identity Manager, without the need of doing a VPN tunnel. Access Point also provides an additional level of abstraction and control to secure network traffic between clients and servers.

For information about deploying Access Point 2.6, see the Deploying and Configuring Access Point guide in the VMware Horizon 7 documentation center, http://pubs.vmware.com/horizon-7-view/index.jsp.
