The Hyper-V plug-in is used for monitoring hierarchy and metrics. vCenter Hyperic supports both Windows operating systems with a Hyper-V role and standalone Hyper-V.

Windows 2008 SP2, 2012 with a Hyper-V role

Hyper-V standalone 2008, 2012

No special configuration is required to use this plug-in.

Model Hyper-V as a platform with the following metrics. Hyper-V includes its own metrics, in addition to regular Windows metrics. The Hyper-V host runs virtual machines, which are modeled as servers. Each virtual machine has its own services.

To monitor what is running on a specific virtual machine, you must install a separate agent on that machine.

In addition to the standard Windows metrics, Hyper-V platform metrics include the following.

Metric

Description

Hyper-V Hypervisor:Logical Processors

Number of processor cores, or its equivalent

Hyper-V Hypervisor:Virtual Processors

Hyper-V Hypervisor:Partitions

Number of virtual machines+1

Hyper-V Hypervisor:Total Pages

Virtual Machines Health Summary:Health Critical

Virtual Machines Health Summary:Health Ok

Includes indicator of overall Hyper-V health

In addition to the standard Windows metrics, Hyper-V platform service metrics include the following.
