Key Features

VMware Horizon Client for Chrome OS makes it easy to access your Windows-based remote desktop or application from your Chrome OS device with the best possible user experience on the Local Area Network (LAN) or across a Wide Area Network (WAN).

  • Work the way you want to - Use your Chrome OS device to work on your Windows-based remote desktop or application from any location. Support for the PCoIP display protocol and the VMware Blast display protocol from VMware means your remote desktop or application is fast and responsive, regardless of where you are.
  • Simple connectivity - Horizon Client for Chrome OS is tightly integrated with VMware Horizon 6 and VMware Horizon 7 for simple setup and connectivity. Quicky reconnect to a remote desktop or application by selecting it from the Recent tab.
  • Unmatched performance - The adaptive capabilities of the PCoIP display protocol and the VMware Blast display protocol mean your remote desktop or application is fast and responsive, regardless of whether you are connecting over your corporate WiFi network or across a WAN.
  • Secure from any location - At your desk or away from the office, your data is always secure. And with RSA soft token integration, you need enter only your RSA PIN into Horizon Client when RSA authentication is required. No need for an RSA hardware token or RSA software token utility. Horizon Client also supports optional RADIUS and RSA SecurID authentication.

Note: You can use remote applications only if you are connected to a VMware Horizon 6.0 with View or later server.

For Horizon Client for Chrome OS, both the user interface and the documentation are available in English, Japanese, French, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean

What's New in This Release

  • Enhanced Horizon Client settings user interface
    The Horizon Client settings user interface is redesigned to enhance the user experience.
  • Network recovery for VMware Blast sessions
    If you lose your network connection unexpectedly during a VMware Blast session, Horizon Client attempts to reconnect to the network and you can continue to use your remote desktop or application. The nework recovery feature also supports IP roaming, which means you can resume your VMware Blast session after switching to a WiFi network.
  • OpenSSL 1.0.2h support
    The OpenSSL library is updated to version openssl-1.0.2h.

Before You Begin

  • Horizon Client for Chrome OS requires a Chromebook with Chrome OS, stable channel, ARC version 41.4410.244.13 or later.
  • Horizon Client for Chrome OS is supported with the latest maintenance release of View 5.3.x and later releases.
  • Install and upgrade Horizon Client for Chrome OS just as you do any other Chrome OS app. You can get the latest version of the app from the Chrome Web Store.

Resolved Issues

  • When you connected to a remote RDS desktop, a delay of up to one minute could occur before the Local Storage Redirection option appeared in General settings and the redirected folder appeared in the local storage list. This issue has been resolved.
  • If you resized the Horizon Client window while running it in parallel with another app, the Horizon Client window went black. This issue has been resolved.

Known Issues

  • If the View server has a valid certificate, you cannot use the Never connect to untrusted servers or Warn before connecting to untrusted servers certificate checking mode.
    Workaround: Use the Do not verify server identify certificates certificate checking mode.
  • You cannot launch a remote desktop or application in Horizon Client for Chrome OS from the Workspace App Portal.
    Workaround: None.
  • With View Agent 5.x and earlier, copying text from a remote desktop or application to an application on your Chrome OS device can take up to five seconds.
    Workaround: Copy the text and then drag open the Unity Touch sidebar. The text is immediately copied to the clipboard.
  • Alt+Tab on a hardware keyboard does not work in remote desktops and applications.
    Workaround: Use Alt+Tab on the onscreen keyboard in a remote desktop or application.
  • You cannot use the Alt key on a hardware keyboard in combination with F4 on the onscreen keyboard in remote desktops and applications.
    Workaround: Use Alt+F4 on the onscreen keyboard in a remote desktop or application.
  • The first time you launch Horizon Client and select a folder for client drive redirection, Horizon Client might stop responding.
    Workaround: None. This is a third-party issue.
  • Time zone redirection does not work when timezone API invocation in Horizon Client for Chrome OS returns numbers such as Et:UCT:0 rather than country/city format.
    Workaround: None. This is a third-party issue.
  • After you have been connected to a remote desktop for a period of time, if you open an audio/video file, the sound is noisy and performance is degraded for some operations.
    Workaround: Reconnect to the remote desktop.
  • If you change the folder for client drive redirection to a folder that contains a file named Android and then close Horizon Client, you cannot relaunch Horizon Client.
    Workaround: None. This is a third-party issue.
  • When Horizon Client is in non-full-screen mode and the Settings, Recent tab, or Servers tab is displayed, if you minimize Horizon Client, Horizon Client shows a black screen​ when you switch it back to the foreground.
    Workaround: Change Horizon Client to full-screen mode. This is a third-party issue.
  • When you use the VMware Blast display protocol to connect to a remote desktop or application with a non-English input method, you might not be able to enter certain symbols.
    Workaround: Use the local input buffer, or connect to the remote desktop or application with the PCoIP display protocol.
