The examples and scenarios in this publication identify tasks in vSphere and suggest ways to accomplish them.

For instance, for the first-time user who wants to evaluate vCenter Server, vSphere Examples and Scenarios contains Getting Started with ESXi and Getting Started with vCenter Server. These sections guide the user through tasks that result in having a virtual machine on an ESXi host, both of which are managed with vCenter Server through the vSphere Client.

In a different scenario, someone who wants to see how vSphere can be configured to send email notifications when alarm threshholds are crossed can review Alarm Example: Setting an Alarm Action for Datastore Usage on a Disk. Other scenarios deal with networking, virtual machine deployment, and so on.

Everyone's environment and policy set is different. VMware recommends that you first experiment with the procedures presented in vSphere Examples and Scenarios on test instances in your datacenter.

This document is not for troubleshooting. For problems that you might be experiencing, see vSphere Troubleshooting.
