Deploy Hyperic vApp with vCloud Director

This page has instructions for creating a Hyperic vApp in your virtual cloud from a vApp template using VMware vCloud Director.

Prerequisites and Requirements

These instructions assume that

  • The Hyperic Server and Hyperic Database OVF files have been uploaded to a vCloud catalog to which you have access.

  • Your browser is configured appropriately for accessing and using the vCloud web-based console. See vCloud Director User Guide for more information.

  • You are a knowledgeable vCloud Director user.

Step 1 - Complete the vApp Profile

When you create a new vApp, you must provide some basic information.

  1. Log in to the vCloud Director Web console.

  2. Click My Cloud.

  3. In the left pane, click vApps and then click the Build New vApp icon in the right pane.

  4. In the Name this vApp pane, type a name, for example, "Hyperic" and an optional description for the vApp.

  5. Select a runtime and storage lease and click Next.

Step 2 - Add Virtual Machines to the vApp

In this step you select the Hyperic Server and Hyperic database VMs from the appropriate catalog to add to the Hyperic vApp. Note that uou must be an organization administrator or vApp author to access public catalogs.

  1. In the Add Virtual Machines panel, select My organization's catalogs or Public catalogs (depending on which contains the Hyperic vApp templates) from the "Look In* drop-down menu.

  2. Browse to (or search for) the Hyperic Server and Database VMs.

    1. Select "Hyperic Server v5.0 Virtual Appliance" and click Add.

    2. Select "Hyperic Database 5.0 Virtual Appliance" and click Add.

    • The selected vApps appear in the lower table.

  3. Click Next.

    • The "VMware End user License Agreement" appears.

  4. Checkmark the box at bottom of page and click Next to agree to the EULA.

Step 3 - Configure the Virtual Machines

  1. In the Configure Virtual Machines panel, select a virtual datacenter (vDC) where the Hyperic vApp will run.

  2. (Optional) Accept the default, or modify the full name and computer name of each virtual machine.

  3. Accept the default, or select a different primary NIC and network for each virtual machine.

  4. Select an IP assignment method for each NIC.

    • Static IP address assignment is recommended

  5. Click Next.

Step 4 - Configure Credentials

In the Application panel:

  1. Enter the password (twice) and username for the vPostgres database in the DB password and DB username fields.

  2. For now, leave the What is the address of the vPostgres database field blank

  3. Enter the password (twice) and username for the Hyperic database in the DB password and DB username fields.

  4. Enter the password (twice) and username for the Hyperic Server admin account in the vPostgres database in the Hyperic admin password and Hyperic admin username fields.

  5. Click Next.

Step 5 - Configure Networking

In the Networking panel:

  1. Checkmark the "Always use assigned IP addresses until this vApp or associated networks are deleted.

  2. Click Next.

Step 6 - Deploy Hyperic vApp

On the Ready to Complete page:

  1. Review the summary for the vApp.

  2. Click Finish.

Step 7 - Power on Hyperic Database

  1. In the left panel of the vCloud Director, in the vApps section, click on the Hyperic vApp.

  2. Click the Virtual Machines tab.

  3. Select the vPostgres database VM.

    • Note the IP address of the database in the IP address column. You will update the Hyperic Server properties with this information in step 7,

  4. Right-click to display the vApp menu, and select Power On.

Step 8 - Configure Hyperic Server with Database Location

  1. In the left panel of the vCloud Director, in the vApps section, click on the Hyperic vApp.

  2. Click the Virtual Machines tab.

  3. Select the Hyperic Server VM.

  4. Right-click to display the vApp menu, and select Properties.

  5. Click the Custom Properties tab.

  6. Enter the IP address of the Hyperic database in the What's the address of the vPostgres database field.

Step 9 - Power On Hyperic Server.

  1. In the left panel of the vCloud Director, in the vApps section, click on the Hyperic vApp.

  2. Click the Virtual Machines tab.

  3. Select the Hyperic Server VM.

  4. Right-click to display the vApp menu, and select Power On.
