Spring Insight Operations runs in Java SE 6 environments. It does not yet support Java SE 7. Otherwise, Insight Operations Dashboard and Agent support the configurations described in tc Server Supported Configurations and System Requirements. In addition, Insight Operations Agent can run in Tomcat 6 and 7, and in JBoss 5.0.1, 5.1.0, 6.0.0 and 6.1.0.
The Insight Dashboard uses vFabric Gemfire and the Java SQL database H2 for persistence. Thus the Dashboard requires a storage configuration to which it can easily make random reads and writes—either a local disk or a SAN. Although Insight Operations does not require a large amount of storage space, the read and write times must be faster than that supported by NFS or other storage solutions used to cheaply configure storage for over-provisioned hosts.
Platforms where Insight Agent will run require multi-core processors.
Insight might require increased memory for tc Runtime instances. You might have to increase the maximum heap or maximum PermGen size (two JVM options), or both. When using Insight with the OpenJDK, a stack size of at least 256k (-Xss256k) should be used. In the OpenJDK 1.6, the instrumentation API requires a larger stack size than with the Oracle JVM. VMware is working with Oracle to resolve this issue, but recommends larger stack sizes as a general rule until there is a permanent fix. Insight does not officially support the OpenJDK 1.6.
