Configuring Servers Into Logical Groups

By configuring servers into logical groups, you can control which servers your clients use and target specific servers for specific data or tasks. You can configure your servers to manage different data sets or to direct specific client traffic to a subset of servers, such as those directly connected to a back-end database.

Prerequisites

Obtain the locator list for the server distributed system. See Configuring Peer-to-Peer Discovery.

Procedure
  1. Using a separate cache.xml file for each server group, configure the servers with the group specification:
    <cache-server port=?40404? ...
      <group>Portfolios</group>
  2. In the client cache.xml, define a distinct pool for each server-group and assign the pools to the corresponding client regions:
    <pool name=?PortfolioPool? server-group=?Portfolios? ...
      <locator host=?lucy? port=?41111?>
      ...
    </pool>
       ...
    <region name="clientRegion" ...
      <region-attributes pool-name=?PortfolioPool? ...
